The review for the M-WET will be held in the Washington, DC, area on March 19, 2019, from approximately 1:30pm until 5:30pm (location information and a detailed agenda will be provided at a later date).
The purpose of this management review, held during the first year of each new EFRC award, is to help the EFRC get the best start possible by identifying policies and procedures that could enhance progress toward scientific goals, and by addressing any operational issues that may limit success. This review is not expected to impact center funding.
This review will focus on an assessment of EFRC management and operations, rather than on scientific plans and accomplishments. The reviewers will be asked to evaluate progress toward establishing an effective center and to focus on leadership, management, and operational practices of the center. Examples of topics to be addressed include systems for strategic planning, self-assessment of progress, decision-making, resource allocation, collaboration, fostering synergy, workforce development, and communication. Scientific plans will enter into the reviews only insofar as necessary for reviewers to understand and assess how the components fit together in an integrated center, and as examples of specific management or operational practices.
The Management Review Guidance for EFRC Directors document outlines the structure of the review and the materials that you will be required to submit prior to the review date. Your Review Document and Staffing and Budget Tables are due no later than January 25, 2019, with presentation materials due one week prior to the review date. Note that this due date for the review documents is later than was presented at the September Directors’ Meeting.
